Zoom Troubleshooting When You Can't Be Together

The Covid-19 Pandemic has taught us a lot about digital technology! One of the hardest things for students during the sudden transition home has been the amount of technology they are having to use that they may have never interacted with before.


While students have been at home, I've made a lot of videos to teach them how to use these basic skills, including how to send messages on Canvas, checking their district issued email, and how to send photos to their teacher from their phone.


Our district used Zoom for all our video conferencing. The challenge was that students had never used it before, and we weren't always able to talk them through how to fix challenges when they called the school or our district's IT Help Desk.


To try and address the issue, I made a video with the most common fixes. Originally it was just for the students in my class, but I shared it with a few colleagues, and eventually the district IT Department asked if they could share it with families as well.
