In Fall 2018, I took on the role of website manager for our school's website.
Principal Lisa Bodenheimer expressed that her first priority was to make the Wiley Magnet Middle School website more inviting and simpler to navigate.
I started by adding more graphics and up to date articles on the home page of the website. You can see the homepage before from 10/02/2018 on the left and the homepage after from 12/14/2018 on the right.
As of 10/27/18, the Wiley Website was not very friendly to diverse users. Using the Ally Accessibility Report, which is a feature tied into the WSFCS district Blackboard sites, Wiley Magnet Middle was at a 63% score.
The severe issues are all tied to PDF documents that are linked to our site but are not coded properly for Screen Readers to Access.
Most of the major issues are tied to heading structures or contrast issues. The contrast issues mostly relate to images that do not have a high enough contrast level.
Minor issues typically related to heading structures that did not follow the correct hierarchy.
While the score this year was lower than the 2017-2018 school year, it was still slightly above the usual levels and far above the acceptable levels.
Early phases of redesign unearthed a challenge with the contrast of colors in the template. The golden background color and the white font that had been set as part of the school template due to the school colors.
