Navigating Hybrid Learning

Many students were freely able to admit that they were struggling with hybrid learning, but they weren't able to name why they were struggling.

It was my belief that a lot of the struggle was resulting in students being overwhelmed. There were quite simply too many steps for students to access the content and/or learning activities. They needed more scaffolding. In addition to highlighting Cognitive Load in the weekly Tech Tuesday Newsletter with ways to reduce it online, I also made a couple of videos to support students. The first, entitled "Why Online Learning is Making Your Brain Explode," started with what cognitive load is. The second, called "Using Lists to Lower Stress and Reduce Cognitive Load," focused on applicable strategies for students to implement.

Update - This Summer I developed a school wide template to help reduce the cognitive load needed when students are navigating their Canvas pages. Learn more here.
