It's a commonly heard refrain in the halls of many K12 institutions. "I wish the parent's would be more involved."
There's something to be said for that. But if we want the families to interact with education differently than they have been, the school needs to take some steps to help them become more engaged.
That was the premise of my presentation at the 2022 Verizon Innovative Learning Schools Conference this March.
After setting the stage with some data about what the typical American family dynamic is like in the modern era, we dove into identifying points of commonality between the school and our families.
Participants then discussed ways to connect with families through video or in person events. Our biggest takeaways were complied on the session Padlet.
ProTip! Since this presentation was given online, using Zoom, I removed my background so that participants could see me and the slides at the same time. Several people asked for me to share directions, so I added a quick video to my YouTube Channel.
